Grand Rounds Speaker | Dr. Neal R. Barshes

Dr. BarshesThe 含羞草研究所 Downstate Department of Surgery was honored to host for Grand Rounds. Dr. Barshes is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery & Endovascular Therapy at Baylor College of Medicine, the Program Director of the Vascular Surgery Independent Fellowship Program, and the Chief of Vascular Surgery Section at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.  


He is a renowned surgeon-scientist, dual board certified in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery with a vast research portfolio that spans 21 years. He has conducted extensive research in peripheral vascular disease, limb ischemia, diabetic foot care, and disparities in vascular surgery. Dr. Barshes was on the task force that defined guidelines on the management of patients with lower extremity peripheral artery disease for the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology. He is a celebrated educator - receiving numerous teaching awards in recognition of his exemplary teaching and leadership.   


Dr. Barshes鈥檚 talk, titled 鈥淢oving the Needle: A Decade of Limb Salvage鈥 offered an inspiring account of the pragmatic challenges and successes in tackling rising and ultimately, declining amputation rates at the Houston VA. His insights shed light on the growth, collaborative, and innovative mindsets necessary to improve patient outcomes. We thank Dr. Barshes for generously sharing his knowledge and expertise with our Department of Surgery at 含羞草研究所 Downstate.
