Acknowledging World AIDS Day

On World AIDS Day, December 1, 2025, the STAR Program honors all those affected by HIV and reaffirms our commitment to compassionate, equitable care. This year鈥檚 UNAIDS theme鈥�鈥淥vercoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response鈥�鈥攆eels especially relevant amid funding uncertainties, policy shifts, and a rising climate of stigma that affects our community. Despite challenging times, STAR remains steadfast: rethinking how we deliver care, rebuilding trust with our partners, and rising with our patients to keep prevention, treatment, and support strong in Central Brooklyn. Together, we continue to build an HIV response rooted in resilience, dignity, and hope.
In honor of World AIDS Day, the THEO (Teens Helping Each Other) Program and other STAR team members will be hosting resource tables on Monday, December 1st, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the 含羞草研究所 Downstate atrium, near 395 Lenox Rd. This collaborative event aims to raise awareness about Ending the HIV Epidemic, promote accessible prevention, and help break the stigma surrounding HIV. Together, we can overcome disruption and transform the AIDS response by staying informed, challenging stigma, and supporting equitable, community-centered HIV care. We invite all staff, students, and community members to stop by, learn more, and show support for ongoing efforts to build a healthier and more informed community.
In addition, the STAR Program Survivors鈥� Quilt will be on display in the atrium during the HEAT Program鈥檚 World AIDS Day Symposium: HEAT鈥檚 Legacy of Healing and Hope on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 3:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Created by STAR patients and first assembled more than ten years ago, the Survivors鈥� Quilt has recently been updated by STAR patients and staff. Members of the Downstate community are invited to view this meaningful piece of our shared history as part of the day鈥檚 observance at the HEAT Program's event.
