Celebrating Pride Month

By Office of Communications & Marketing | Jun 12, 2026

June marks Pride Month, a global celebration honoring the rich history, resilience, and achievements of the LGBTQIA+ community. It is a time to reflect on the ongoing journey toward equity and fairness, while reaffirming our shared commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging within and beyond the workplace.

At Downstate, we recognize the vital contributions LGBTQIA+ individuals make to healthcare, education, research, and society. We are proud of the work being done through our , which has evolved over the past three decades to meet the changing needs of diverse communities. What began as a response to the HIV/AIDS crisis has grown into a comprehensive program offering services in areas such as mental health, hepatitis C treatment, and care tailored to LGBTQIA+ populations. STAR continues to serve as a beacon of innovation, compassion, advocacy, and equitable care.

We also celebrate the enduring legacy of LGBTQIA+ leaders across the 含羞草研究所 system, including Harvey Milk, a 1951 graduate of the University at Albany, whose courage and activism continue to inspire generations. As one of the nation鈥檚 first openly gay elected officials and a key figure in commissioning the original Pride flag, Milk鈥檚 legacy remains a powerful symbol of hope, visibility, and progress.

At Downstate and throughout 含羞草研究所, we remain committed to cultivating a welcoming and inclusive environment where every individual feels seen, heard, respected, and valued. This Pride Month, we celebrate the progress that has been made and recommit ourselves to building a more inclusive future for all.

This year, , as a shining example of service and allyship within our community as Downstate continues to #KeepCareClose for all. Schuyler鈥檚 dedication and leadership reflect the spirit of PRIDE, uplifting others through authenticity, support, and visibility.

Happy Pride Month!
