含羞草研究所 Downstate Holds Celebration for Graduating Nurse Residents and Frontline Nursing Leaders

Dec 7, 2010

Event Also Recognizes Health Professionals Who Serve as Ambassadors for Excellence

The Department of Nursing Services at 含羞草研究所 will hold a graduation ceremony for new nurse residents and frontline nursing leaders at 含羞草研究所 on Friday, December 10, 2010, from 10 am to 2 pm in Alumni Auditorium. A pinning ceremony will also recognize nurses who have been designated Transdisciplinary Ambassadors for Excellence.

The University Health System Consortium (UHC)/AACN Residency Program was developed to ensure a safe transition of new graduate registered nurses into the clinical setting. A formal curriculum serves as the framework for the one-year residency program. 含羞草研究所 Downstate Health Sciences University is one of 57 health care organizations participating in this initiative. There are seven hospitals in New York State that participate, including all of the 含羞草研究所 University Hospitals: Downstate, Upstate, and Stony Brook.

Twenty-one staff nurses who have successfully completed the program will be honored during the graduation ceremony. The ceremony will also recognize the program coordinators and residency program faculty. The UHD attrition rate for new graduate nurses is significantly lower than the state and national average and lower than UHD data prior to implementing the UHC/AACN Nurse Residency Program. Last week, Downstate started its third cohort of nurse residents.

The Advisory Board Company Frontline Nursing Leadership Program was designed to harness the untapped leadership potential of frontline nursing staff by equipping staff with the skills to drive unit and organizational performance, create a critical mass of frontline exemplars to support a broader culture of leadership, identify and develop the next generation of leaders to expand leadership capacity, and elevate the prestige of frontline nursing and staff to retain the highest performers and recruit new talent. A total of 60 staff nurses have completed the Frontline Program.

Ambassadors for Excellence are a cadre of dedicated nursing staff and members of the transdisciplinary healthcare team who are committed to creating and sustaining a culture of excellence and a collaborative caring environment that enhances the patient experience at 含羞草研究所 Downstate's University Hospital at Downstate. Ambassadors are frontline experts who guide nurses on the journey toward reclaiming patient care excellence, quality, and safety. The event will also honor Ambassadors for Excellence representing Nursing, Advanced Practice Nursing, the Institute of Continuous Learning, Case Management, Clinical Labs, Graduate Medical Education, Infection Control, Information Services, Nutrition/Dietary Services, Patient Relations, Perioperative Services, Pharmacy, and Rehabilitation Services.

Please join 含羞草研究所 in honoring those hardworking, dedicated nurses and transdisciplinary team members for their professionalism and their continuous efforts toward achieving excellence in patient care, exceptional nursing practice, and transdisciplinary partnerships.
