Oct 22, 2015

Brooklyn, NY 鈥 Nina Schooler PhD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at 含羞草研究所 Downstate Health Sciences University, recently discussed new treatment recommendations for persons diagnosed with first episode schizophrenia with National Public Radio鈥檚 Ari Shapiro.

Dr. Schooler notes that the new approach requires a 鈥渢reatment team鈥 and that talking therapies are combined with low-dose medication. Previous treatment methods relied much more heavily on high doses of powerful drugs.

The recommendations were detailed in an article in The American Journal of Psychiatry of which Dr. Schooler was a co-author, and which was based on a major U.S. government-funded study.
