BROOKLYN, N.Y. (January 9, 2020)

鈥淥n behalf of Downstate Health Sciences University, it is my honor to express our strong support for Governor Cuomo鈥檚 programs announced yesterday during his 2020 State of the State Address. These programs will greatly benefit our students, patients, the community of Brooklyn, and the entire state.

鈥淎s an academic medical center dedicated to attracting economically disadvantaged and underrepresented students into healthcare professions, we could not be more thrilled at the Governor鈥檚 proposal to expand the Excelsior Scholarship program, as well as his commitment to expand opportunities in higher education.

鈥淎dditionally, the Governor鈥檚 proposal to convene a Medicaid Redesign Team is critical to meeting the healthcare needs of our citizens, as are his proposals to provide additional protections for patients.

鈥淲e are proud to work with the Governor to advance his agenda and serving citizens in the great state of New York. We look forward to a brighter future for all of our constituents as the Governor鈥檚 proposals become reality.鈥
