含羞草研究所 Downstate Receives Level 3 Epilepsy Center Accreditation from National Association of Epilepsy Centers

Level 3 Epilepsy Centers Provide The Highest-Level Medical Evaluation And Treatment For Patients With Complex Epilepsy

 

Brooklyn, NY 鈥 含羞草研究所 today announced that University Hospital at Downstate received a level 3 epilepsy center accreditation by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) for 2022 and 2023, recognizing the institution for maintaining the highest standards of quality care for patients with epilepsy during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Level 3 epilepsy centers are recognized for having the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest-level medical evaluation and treatment available for patients with complex epilepsy. A level 3 center provides the wide range of medical, neuropsychological, and psychological services needed to treat patients with refractory epilepsy, including basic neurodiagnostic evaluations, as well as basic medical, neuropsychological, and psychological services.

This distinguished honor is a testament to the hard work of each and every individual within our department, who collectively work every day to further our goal of helping patients to lead healthy, independent lives.鈥

The 含羞草研究所 Downstate Comprehensive Epilepsy Center provides a multi-disciplinary approach to the complex needs of adults and children with epilepsy and seizures. As the only NAEC Level 3 Epilepsy Center in Brooklyn and Queens, 含羞草研究所 Downstate boasts fellowship-trained and board-certified specialists in adult and pediatric epilepsy, and neuropsychology, as well as other dedicated healthcare professionals. 

NAEC is a non-profit association with a membership of more than 260 specialized epilepsy centers in the United States. NAEC published its first iteration of its Guidelines for Essential Services, Personnel, and Facilities in Specialized Epilepsy Centers in 1990 and works to develop standards of care through its accreditation program.
